This workshop was such a great experience for me as a teacher and as a person.
Many moons ago, I started this fascination with the quality of Gratitude. The fact that it sounds like Great Attitude, may have been a draw card.
But I think what drew me is the fact that for me it has such a grounding and centering feel to it. To be grateful one begins to turn in, we quiet our busy senses and we begin to settle. And by doing this we start to come to stillness and quiet.
Stillness and quiet allow the breath and the mind to settle. What a lovely feeling that is! What a healing balm that can be. We live in a busy world, we are usually rushing toward things, or pushing things away? In Yogic terms this is called Rajas, the pull of desire and Dvesa, aversion... turning away (sometimes running away) from things or people.
So what stops this pendulum from exhausting us, GRATITUDE does.
By coming to a still place, focusing on the breath, and feeling our way to gratitude we can begin to be grateful with what is. If this sounds kinda airy fairy, bear with me. When we aren't in the depths of wanting more or shunning things/people we can find a quiet place of rest. Try it with me.
Here's my simple practice:
Light a candle.
Come to sit.
Become friends with your breath.
Picture, sense or feel what gratitude is to you (find your doorway in).
Ask yourself how does it feel in your body? Stay there, follow it & enjoy.
Draw your palms together.
Thats it? Yes, thats it. Its so simple.
I don't want long, drawn out serious practice. Just a few minutes of this can change your day. Yep, its a shift!
