I've been gone a while from here. But I've been doing a lot!
What's been happening is this:
BIG B-DAY: I turned 50! It was the most fabulous birthday I've had. I was fortunate to have most family here, most friends and both of my children. I LOVED turning 50 at home, surrounded by so much love and laughter!
Travel: India happened. I went on a retreat to the most sweet town named Pushkar for 7 glorious days and then went on to Jaipur solo for 2 nights. Best fun ever!
Study: I've been studying with a new teacher and she has opened my eyes wide up to so much love and wisdom. I'm deep in learning a beloved text, The Bhagavad Gita. It's often called a manual for life, Henry Thoreau loved it, Gandhi read it and kept it close, and Cleo Wade (Heart Talk) refers to it often. Its a dense text and I'm loving it!
I'll be sharing more there but for the moment, how are you? How's your Yoga practice? What are you up to on and off the mat?
I love to swoon around in the words of this recent genre of Poets; Nayyirah Waheed, April Green, Cleo Wade and Atticus.
Their words are like little offerings, little Altars to our spirits. I find poetry soooooooo nourishing and calming. How about you?
Lately, I'm loving the poem above by Nayyirah Waheed and I'm going to dive into the words and extract some Yoga for you (and me) from them.
tonight. under the moon. choose you.
Such a beautiful invitation.
tonight. This first word feels to me a little like the first word in the Yoga Sutras, Atha. A sweet calling or invitation to your heart and soul, to commit to a time but not any time ...... tonight.
under the moon. Oh the magical night time feel and sight of the moon. Under to me also feels like the exhale, a kind of surrender to the busy "to do", "to be" or lately "be more". Tucking that to the side and stepping out, under the mystery and beauty of the moon with feeling of the exhale. Open, listening, surrendered bathing in the beauty of the moon.
choose you. Yes! Choose you. Make that choice to have your own back, to spend some time thinking and feeling what it might look like to simply make that decision. What does that look like in your life? It feels to me like a little reminder of our dharma. To choose the blueprint of your soul, to follow that map. The Bhagavad Gita indicates that following our dharma is where our happiness lies! Even if we fail, even if we have to try and try again, that our real happiness lies in following our own path wholeheartedly.
This sweet poem, this little cup of words feel like a prayer for me. A calling, and a reminder to step out and take a few minutes to soak it up, be with the moon, the nighttime smells and make a little intention to choose me, my highest, my best.

I love words. And I adore words in Sanskrit. And English and Italian, Spanish oh and French for sure. And after our trip to Thailand, I love Thai.
When I was 10 my mum gave me a book of Poems, and in it she wrote "For all your hard work in reading and spelling". I loved that book! I treasured it and at her funeral I read a poem from it, which was one of our favourites. I loved and adored my first Thesaurus (I know, funny right) and my first Dictionary. I've always loved books, signs, poetry and chants.
Lately I've become enamoured some particular words and the magical spell they create, and drum roll they are:
Intention // I am ..... or I feel ...
Prayer // May I .... be blessed into usefulness - Ravi Ravindra
Wish // It's my wish that ....
Blessing // I bless you and ....
Sankalpa - Sanskrit for Intention
From my own experience these words and their feeling, are like tiny stars filled with potential. And the potential is for creation. Yes, the creation will look different to each of us. But I feel the lightness and positivity of those words creates space for us to take steps toward what it is we desire to create.

Take a seat, get comfy. Set aside any thoughts or feelings and get cosy with your breath, drop into the rhythm of your own heart. Be here a handful of breaths. When you feel happy and clear, rest your eyes upon these words: Intention, Blessing, Prayer, Wish, Sankapa. Which one appeals to you? Blessing, prayer, wish, intention or Sankalpa. Then maybe write a few words about:
What you might like to dare to wish for?
To aim for?
To bless and let go of?
To pray pray for?
What lies deep in your heart, what do you realllllllllly wish for?
Take a pen, your notebook, jot it down, scribble it, maybe its just a bunch of words right now, or an image or a symbol. Take your time over the next few hours or days and let it come to you. Patience my dear.
Once you feel its complete, write it out on a small piece of paper and place it somewhere where you will see it. It might be beside your bed, it may be inside your wallet (where your bound to see it), or in the car on the dashboard. Whisper it, say it, pray for it, wish for it when the moon is new, feel into it. Get close to it, to the feelings, to the heart of it.
There you go, there's a small practice for you. Enjoy. Okay, really go do this and enjoy it.
