I love to swoon around in the words of this recent genre of Poets; Nayyirah Waheed, April Green, Cleo Wade and Atticus.
Their words are like little offerings, little Altars to our spirits. I find poetry soooooooo nourishing and calming. How about you?
Lately, I'm loving the poem above by Nayyirah Waheed and I'm going to dive into the words and extract some Yoga for you (and me) from them.
tonight. under the moon. choose you.
Such a beautiful invitation.
tonight. This first word feels to me a little like the first word in the Yoga Sutras, Atha. A sweet calling or invitation to your heart and soul, to commit to a time but not any time ...... tonight.
under the moon. Oh the magical night time feel and sight of the moon. Under to me also feels like the exhale, a kind of surrender to the busy "to do", "to be" or lately "be more". Tucking that to the side and stepping out, under the mystery and beauty of the moon with feeling of the exhale. Open, listening, surrendered bathing in the beauty of the moon.
choose you. Yes! Choose you. Make that choice to have your own back, to spend some time thinking and feeling what it might look like to simply make that decision. What does that look like in your life? It feels to me like a little reminder of our dharma. To choose the blueprint of your soul, to follow that map. The Bhagavad Gita indicates that following our dharma is where our happiness lies! Even if we fail, even if we have to try and try again, that our real happiness lies in following our own path wholeheartedly.
This sweet poem, this little cup of words feel like a prayer for me. A calling, and a reminder to step out and take a few minutes to soak it up, be with the moon, the nighttime smells and make a little intention to choose me, my highest, my best.
Thank you always to Nayyirah Waheed for your books of poems! Forever grateful to you.
Books: Go to either Book Depository or Amazon for her publication: Salt and Nejma.
What a wonderful time we had together at The Big Chill, a 2 hour class I offered together with Kaz from Fig and Fennel Candles and Mel from Gypsylove Malas!
The intention was to offer a class designed for some seriously deep relaxation, of the Yoga variety. From the feedback I feel like we totally delivered that, which makes me feel so awesome!
So thank you for coming and for being part of this.
Here's a small little one pager I put together for you, to keep you super chilled and relaxed during what can be a busy, fun, exhausting time of year.
I hope you enjoy it and that you make some time for yourself, look after YOU!
Be back in 2017.
Today there was Yoga at the bus stop in Dee Why. Although, you walking by looking at the same thing might not call it by the name of Yoga! Hold tight and I'll explain.
A lady sitting at the bus stop caught my eye today. Really, I think I almost walked into the pole with the bus timetable on it. Duh. I was kinda mesmerised.
There sat this lady. She looked fully present. What she was wearing and I feel how she was wearing her clothes got my attention.
Because (to me) from top to toe she totally rocked her outfit.
Her hair was scooped up in a bun, a big rocking bun and front and centre was a big beautiful soft pink flower. Like I'm talking it was a BIG flower. Her clothes were an assortment of pink and white, big floaty layers of tops and a skirt. I'm not sure on the shoes, because the hair had me!
I couldn't take my eyes off her, I was even going to go say something like "your totally rocking that outfit" or "you look so amazing" or "sheeesh your really wearing your dharma" but I felt like those words would not do anyone .... any good.... insert smiley face here!
For me today, she embodied Yoga, in particular Dharma. "Better to struggle in your own dharma than to succeed in anothers" or as Joseph Campbell so eloquently wrote "You must give up the life you planned in order to live the life that is waiting for you".
I felt like that lady, wearing that outfit, was totally into what she loved and what was true for her. She looked lit up, alive, juicy, like she was
A L I V E
Not just getting by, her fire was s t o k e d !
Maybe could we put aside what others expect us to look like, how they expect us to be, or what we envisage others expect from us.
Lets dive deep into what feels true for us!
Its a feeling that we can drop into, with practice, how does this feel for me, in my body?
Does it feel true?
Where do I feel truth?
Do I feel lit up?
Do I feel like I'm stoking my fire?
Now I'm off to the hairdressers to get back to being a brunette! One small step. Yes, a kinda superficial one but hey, we are here, having this human experience and best to make it true for us.
Even if that starts at the hairdressers!
