or a challenge,
or a deep dig!
Recently I've been studying and really having a lot of fun diving into Dharma, with my teacher & mentor. And its been fun, challenging and confronting. But the underlying feeling has been one of JOY! Its gives me so much energy and inspiration.
So I thought, given its a really joyous topic for me right now, I wondered how I could share that? So I've come up with a challenge of sorts.
I dare you to write down 54 blessings you've been given (this WAS 108!! LOL but I revised it to half of that, 54). It felt like an achievable place to start, even though it would have been so much prettier to be able to write 108.
I'd like you to take some time, find a nice place to sit, maybe light a candle or some incense. You know beginnings are so much nicer with a little pausing, a small moment that sets the tone. With a nice notebook or a piece of paper, or the print out below I made for you & I'd like you to think and feel into all the blessings you've received. Some might call it a gratitude list, but I feel like a blessing is different, a blessing is what has been given or bestowed to you. Here are some examples;
- Your thoughtfulness
- Your creativity
- Your way with a camera
- Your ability to make people feel appreciated
- Your talent for dance moves
- Your ability to nail a spreadsheet
So you can see its not necessarily one line of thought, its your gifts, your talents, your appreciations, your inclinations, your inspirations, your uniqueness. Your Dharma!
My intention here is to ask you to name your "awesomeness". I've noticed lately, after giving a few of my girlfriends compliments, or acknowledging their amazing skill at something, that people are SO QUICK to brush them off. Yet often, we are so attached to unkind or thoughtless words that are sent our way, we give them real weight and can let them take residence in our hearts. We all have been blessed, we are here on this earth, making our way, and often we can get to a junction in our life and be scratching our heads wondering what/when/how/why. So perhaps today, bring some joy into your life, and take some time to sit and name your blessings.
I found it fun, challenging and really had to draw the thoughts and feels out. I did take a pause around 9, then got going again, then thought about it from a different angle for example I feel grateful for my appreciation of the moon. I often go out at night and gaze at the moon, I love having my husband and kids join me, I've been doing this since my kids were babies as there's something so calming and soothing about the night air. Be creative!
Enjoy. I'd love to know how you go... did you find it easy, hard, did you get to 9 like me and get stuck for a moment.. and then got started again. How did it unfold for you?
